The Homemade Baking Soda Toothpaste Recipe that we describe below allows to completely remineralize your teeth and gum.
What we have done is to ensure that this toothpaste recipe has all of the different nutrients your mouth needs.
Our selected set of ingredients use nutrients that support building healthy teeth.
For instance, we decided to add coconut oil and mix it with baking soda.
You’ll find also that you’ll get some calcium and magnesium, both are must minerals for your mouth health.
I can ensure you that you’ll not have your teeth white and clean, but with the different ingredients we have added to the baking soda, they’ll be healthy and strong.
Is baking soda toothpaste better than the one we buy?
Baking Soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is probably one of the least abrasive tooth cleaners. It is highly effective too.
Again, I’de like to repeat this, sodium bicarbonate is one of the least abrasive teeth cleaning agents when compared to the toothpaste cleaning agents being sold in your supermarket.
What do you need to know about the baking soda toothpaste recipe?
What you need to know about the below baking soda coconut oil toothpaste is that it has many excellent nutrients.
Yes, we will tell you how to make toothpaste with coconut oil and baking soda. However, before doing so, we’ll tell you some of the benefits of the ingredients we use.
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
We provided many different uses of baking soda in the past.
And we use it today to make toothpaste because it acts as an ideal mild abrasive. What this substance does is dissolves the small particles that are on your teeth and gum, so that you leave them clean.
But sodium bicarbonate is also good for us that it is alkaline. And an alkaline product adds the benefit of neutralizing any excess acid in the mouth. (1)
Coconut oil
We added this ingredient to our toothpaste baking soda recipe because it is a very versatile food and health substance on the planet.
When you’ll use your toothpaste, you’ll feel like you have a smooth mouthfeel. It will also help to hold on leftover foodstuff that is in your mouth.
But more importantly, it will help kill bad and nasty microorganisms. One of such bad organism is candida (2) with many other tooth decay bacteria that will be killed.
But the coconut oil will support the development of beneficial ones.
We would advise you to take organic, cold-pressed and unrefined coconut oil.
Note that you may find that your toothpaste is kinda stiff in cool conditions. That’s normal it melts at about 76 degrees Fahrenheit.
So in cold conditions, it will stiff, while in hot or warm conditions, the paste will be runny and prone to separating.
Note that being runny or stiff will not change the effectiveness of the paste.
Xylitol substance
We not really happy to use Xylitol but it has been used in toothpaste for decades (3). Xylitol is a type of sweetener in food.
But this sweetener has had a little bit of controversy and as such we need not use too much of it. If you consume large quantities of this product, you may have some side effects which are not highly recommended.
The sweetener is a sugar alcohol.
And we need something to make our toothpaste a little sweet. That’s why we are using it in a very small proportion.
Obviously, sugar alcohols help bacteria to grow. The good news is that they can’t metabolize them. And as such they die just after consuming them.
Added spices for taste
It is not really possible to use a toothpaste without some taste added to it.
That is why we add powdered spices.
For instance, you can add cloves or cinnamon. We also have tried ginger and mint and these have provided good flavors without artificial flavoring. The only thing you need to be careful about is that they are well ground. If not, you’ll feel you have some stones in your mouth or sand. You’ll not like that feeling.
Diatomaceous earth (DE)
These are sharp bits of silicon. They are the remains of the shells of some tiny aquatic animals. The animals are called diatoms.
When you add them to your toothpaste, they provide a mildly abrasive substance and contain the wanted trace minerals that your gum needs.
Homemade Baking Soda Toothpaste
Here is the toothpaste recipe we promised you. Please take action and make it.
How long will it take you to prepare it:
You just need 2 minutes and you’re done. That’s considering that you have the ingredients.
How many days can I use it?
You can use the baking soda toothpaste for 30 days. But make sure you store it in a small container so no dust, fly or air can reach it.
The reason for 30 days storage period is that we do not add additives to allow you to store the toothpaste for a longer period of time.
We do not like additives and do advise you to use these either.
The coconut oil and baking soda toothpaste ingredients
I have decided to make a fairly exotic toothpaste and as such, I have added some ingredients.
I feel that baking soda and water is probably too basic and does not do justice to your teeth health. That’s why I added some ingredient which shall please your teeth and your gum too.
- 4 tablespoons coconut oil – First exotic element
- 2 tablespoons baking soda
- 1 tablespoon xylitol powder – Second exotic ingredient – optional
- 20 drops cinnamon or clove essential oil – This is really good to prevent your teeth to hurt you – optional
- 20 drops peppermint essential oil – For you to have a nice smell – optional
- 30 drops trace minerals – Make sure that you have clean minerals
- Toothpaste tube – Or a container that you can close
- Water – you can add a little bit of water or not. We prefer without.
Preparation for the baking soda toothpaste DI
The baking soda as toothpaste preparation is fairly basic.
First, put the coconut oil container (note that it is the container that needs to be put into a bowl) in the bowl with warm water. Like this, the oil will dissolve a bit and aid your preparation.
You just need to put all of the above ingredients into a bowl.
Now, mix them well. I use a food processor to do this, but you can mix the lot with a fork.
You have now done with your first homemade baking soda and toothpaste.
What’s left for you to do is to store the past in a glass jar and lock it with a lid. Note that your paste may start to dry out after a few days.
That’s fine. Just add a bit of water.
