Why choosing your food?

Our body needs the right type and amount of food in order to function properly. I think we all accept this.

But, many of us do not know what type of food does help with hormone imbalance.

And this is not for aged people only.

Even young women need to balance their hormones.

And I can say from personal experience that I greatly benefited from consuming hormone-balancing foods.

If young women can benefit from this, then middle-aged and older women must not ask this question. They just need to get on with it and eat the right type of food.

In fact, middle age and older ladies will get a real jolt of energy by eating the below food and by reducing some other types.

I want to make sure that I get the point across to you.

It is not very important, but more like extremely important to consume healthy products with the right nutrients.

If you do not do so, then you’ll end up with a malfunctioning body which can cause numerous health problems.

There are 5 types of food that can help you improve hormone imbalance.

Note that there are many more, but I think if you start with the below 5, then you are on your way to a better life.

The five types of food are as follows:

1- Eating Yogurt

Yogurt is a form of naturally fermented food.

It has numerous health benefits. (1)

The reason is that it contains a high dose of calcium and plenty of probiotics, which does help your guts to work properly.

And when your guts work as they should, then the rest of your body will do too.

Note that if you consume yogurt regularly, you’ll strengthen your bones and regulate your digestion.

All of these will help in balancing your hormones and help you age gracefully.

2- Fatty fish

Salmon and fatty fish to fight bad cholesterol level and LDL

I  am a big fan of fatty fish simply because they are a big source of Omega-3 fatty acids.

This type of Omega is vital for good health and great skin.

They prevent numerous serious diseases including some types of cancer. (2)

As such it is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. That is eating some nice fish that contains a lot of this substance.

Get at least twice a week omega-3 fatty acids from fatty types of fish such as salmon and trout. Eat tuna only once a week.

3- Vegetables rich in antioxidants

Organic spinach is healthier with no pesticides

It is important to absorb antioxidants regularly so that your body can fight internal inflammations.

For example, you can start eating dark leafy green veggies such as kale, collard greens, and Brussel’s sprouts.

You can also eat spinach and cilantro to boost your antioxidant intake.

4- Healing Spices

We often are told to use some herbs and spices in our food.

But we quite often do not know how good these are for us.

Well, spices such as cinnamon are very important to support the proper body function.

They not only help in balancing our hormones, but there are also good at making your skin look great too.

The ones I prefer are ginger powder and garlic powder too.

But I also use many other ones such as curry powder.

5 – Avocado

I just love this fruit. Basically, the reason I love the fruit is that Avocados are rich in healthy fats.

They also contain a lot of fiber, magnesium, potassium, and folic acid.

You’ll find many other things in this fruit such as vitamins B and E, both of which will balance your hormones easily.

Foods that cause hormonal imbalance

At the beginning of this article, I told you that I would tell you about what type of food is good for hormone imbalance. This is done. Now, I want to introduce you to 5 types of foods that cause hormonal imbalance. I am sure that you won’t like the below summary as you may like some of these.

1- Sugar cause hormonal imbalance

Refined Sugar

Sugar is the number one enemy for your health and this has been documented time and time again.

Sugar causes many diseases such as diabetes and obesity.

So, you can take my word for it that it definitely is one of the main causes of hormonal imbalance in women.

Unfortunately, if you consume too much of it, then you’ll end up harming your immune system. And then your hormones will be adversely affected.

The good news is that not every sugar is the same. You need to watch for crystallized sugar as it is really bad for your metabolism.

On the other hand, natural sugars that you find in fruits can be beneficial if consumed moderately. Remember, I said consume moderately, please.

2- Alcohol

Alcohol is probably something that you are used to consuming without knowing it adversely affects your hormones. (4, 5)

Well, as much as you like this beverage, it can cause hot flashes and will dehydrate your body as well.

It has been demonstrated that drinking alcohol will make the liver work overtime and affect the whole system.

So, make sure you’re not overconsuming it and best not to drink it all.

3- Caffeine

Coffee cup

I love coffee, so by default, I love caffeine.

However, there are times where drinking coffee can make me very uncomfortable. In fact, drinking caffeine-based products can trigger hot flashes in women.

And it was documented that this is especially true during menopause.

There are times that I get anxious and nervous when drinking coffee (this is mainly for younger women). (6)

What you can do in these particular cases is to cut back on your caffeine intake. Just by cutting back coffee, you can re-instore a good balance of your hormones and keep your health in check.

But I have a special trick for this. Coffee contains caffeine and I love the rush it does provide me.

So, instead of cutting coffee and not having my coffee cup in the morning, I have found that Tea does provide me with the right level of caffeine without the above issues.

As such, when I feel sensitive and not right in my body, I switch from coffee to “real tea”. I also drink decaffeinated coffee. Like this, I still have the joy of the taste of coffee and I have my level of caffeine from the tea.

Weirdly enough, the caffeine available in the tea does not seem to have a negative impact on my imbalanced hormones. So try it for yourself.

4- High-glycemic foods

Potato salad

There are a couple of good foods for hormone imbalance, but most of our diet consists of bad ones. Let me give you a good example.

We eat a lot of potatoes, white rice, and white bread. These are all high-glycemic foods. And all of these are really bad for your hormonal levels. (7)

In essence, all of these disrupt your internal hormonal balance which does result in increased insulin levels and therefore further health problems.

It would be best for you to eat lower glycemic foods such as vegetables, whole grain, nuts, etc.

5- Soy

Soybean oil

Soy is an ingredient that is a bit everywhere these days. But did you know that it is a phytoestrogen?

In essence, phytoestrogen mimics the body’s naturally occurring hormones.

As such, there are strong pieces of evidence that phytoestrogens can disrupt the function of your thyroid and in turn, cause hormonal imbalance. (8, 9, 10)

This does, therefore, result in potentially severe health problems.

But there is a worse thing to be worried about. Because soy mimics hormones, it can interfere with some of your thyroid medications. The result is that it can cause weight gain, infertility, muscle loss, and mood swings.

Conclusion

I hope you got the point that by eating the right type of food, you’ll end up with balancing your hormones and make you feel better.

So, if you want to improve your health, you need to stick to a healthy diet and avoid some of the above foods.

Ensure you are physically active, try to reduce your daily stress and sleep properly overnight.
