Experts claim that most of the people that have gluten intolerance will never be diagnosed as such.
Moreover, they say that one-quarter of the population in the US suffers from some kind of gluten intolerance, sensitivity, or even celiac disease.
These numbers are on the rise, and this is true globally.
Therefore, it is of high importance to know the signs that indicate that you are gluten intolerant. Below I summarize 7 of these signs.
1. Keratosis Pilaris due to gluten intolerance
Otherwise known as “chicken skin” that are commonly found on the backs of arms and your thighs is the result of fatty acid deficiency caused by gluten damaging the gut.
2. Persistent Headaches
Persistent headaches and migraines are other potential signs of being gluten intolerant. They can surely also be signs of dehydration and some other types of disorders. In case your headaches do not stop you should immediately pay a visit to the physician.
3. Autoimmune Diseases
This is not happening in one hundred percent of the cases, but it is not excludable that Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Ulcerative colitis, Scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis can be rooted in gluten intolerance.
4. Chronic Fatigue
Chronic fatigue can be a result of various factors. For instance, it can be caused by something really serious, like HIV, and on the other hand, it may also be a result of something not that severe, as dehydration.
In the case of gluten intolerance, you may also experience fatigue, exhaustion, especially after consuming food that contains gluten, or brain fog.
Yet, you must consult your doctor in the case of chronic fatigue as he needs to discover its cause and prescribe a proper treatment.
5. Fibromyalgia
If you’ve been diagnosed, consider gluten as the potential cause, for there are people diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, but in fact are gluten- intolerant.
6. Digestive Issues
Some of the most common symptoms of gluten intolerance are gases, diarrhea, bloating and persistent constipation.
Constipation is the most common symptom in children.
So aim to see the doctor for this if your child shows this sign of intolerance.
It is always good to know. Especially at a young age so that you can correct this with appropriate natural remedies.
7. Dizziness
If you are intolerant to gluten, you may feel dizzy and off-balance.
I have a lot of friends who have this.
But I also have my daughter who has it. It is really annoying I have to say, but with time we have managed to get through it.
Our daughter knows her condition and is taking care of herself when she is going to her friend.
It took a lot of time and effort to get to this stage, but the results are that we do not worry anymore.
Where can I find gluten-free food?
There are many locations where you can find these. Some supermarkets offer gluten-free food. However, if you do not find these in supermarkets, you can get to pharmacies and paramedical type pharmacies.
You can also find gluten-free food on the web. Please click on the below picture to be redirected to a site that offer gluten-free food.
Conclusions
If you have one of the above signs, then you may well be a person with gluten intolerance.
So my advice would be that you do not take any food that has gluten for about 7 days. I know this is difficult but best for you.
After this 7 day period, see if you still have the above symptoms. If you do, then you may not be gluten intolerant. Your problem may be with something else.
Nevertheless, the best thing is to go to your doctor and ask for allergy tests. These will be able to definitely define your allergies. Then you just need to act upon these.
Note that even if you have seen an allergist and he did not identify any allergy issue, this does not mean you do not have one.
What allergists do is they look for the most common allergies. So the allergist may not have investigated what you have. So it may not be that serious either.
At the end of the day, we develop this intolerance through time due to stress, the environment (polluted or not) and the food we eat. So if we modify a little bit of our lifestyle, then we may get away with no intolerance.
Note that they are times where intolerance is due to your body genes. Do not go against these. If you have an intolerance to nuts, do not eat them or anything associated with them. This intolerance is deadly in many cases, so better be safe than sorry.
