Quite a number of friends have never heard of combining both sour cream and cheese to make an excellent mashed potato dinner.

The only downside to this recipe is that it takes time to cook.
It only takes about 20 minutes to prepare, but you need 1 hour and minutes cooking time.
So it is not something I would advise not to plan. That’s why I said it is a good dish for weekends.
At the end of the day, we have time over the week to cook and enjoy some of our passions.

Best mashed potato recipe with cream cheese and sour cream – The ingredients
Though it takes a substantial amount of time for preparing and cooking this recipe, you only need 6 ingredients.

How to prepare sour cream and cheese mashed potatoes?
Step 1 – Let’s get the oven going as it does take some time before it is at the right temperature. Put the oven to 350 degrees F (or 175 degrees Celcius).
Step 2 – Grease your baking dish. Try to choose a good side glass type dish that can go in the oven. Say a 1 1/2-quart in size. This dish is quite common in the shops.
Step 3 – Prepare your mashed potatoes (click here to find out how to make mashed potatoes). Alternatively, just place your 2kg potatoes into a large pot. Add water and salt. Now cover your pot. Bring the water to a boil. When boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low. Wait till the potatoes are tender. It should take about 15 to 20 minutes. Drain the lot.
And step 4 – Wait a bit till the potatoes are colder and remove the skin. The potatoes should peel easily. Now mash the peeled potatoes with a potato masher. If you do not have one, just use a fork. You are done when you get a nice and smooth pure.
Step 5 – Add the cream cheese and stir.
Now onto step 6 – Add the sour cream and stir again.
Step 7 – Add the butter, green onions, salt, and pepper. Stir yet again.
Step 8 – Pour you mashed potatoes into your baking dish. Make sure it is smooth, leveled and nice looking.
Step 9 – Put your dish in the oven to bake. Wait until the dish gets golden and bubbly. You should need to wait for about 1 hour to 1 and 1/2 hours
Step 10 – Serve your dish and enjoy.
Below are two ways you can present your dish. I really like the second one and my guests love it.
You just need small glass dishes instead of a large one.

I have managed to combined red potatoes with two nice products – sour cream and cream cheese.
Both of these ingredients are not easy to combine and you can get it all wrong if you put too much of one compared to the other one.
That is why I always warn you not to go too heavy with ingredients.
Try to stick to the measures I gave you and you should be alright.

As I said above, it is a pity that it takes so long to cook in the oven.
But at the end of the day, succulent things come after a good waiting time.
You really want to have that brown golden colored and crusty layer on top of your dish. So, wait a bit before removing from the oven.
I can tell you, you’ll love it.
This dish is what I would semi-healthy.
At the end of the day, it uses sour cream and cream cheese.
So, you have some fat in it and you also have some butter.
But the quantities are nicely spread between the three ingredients that I would not worry so much about that.
