Homemade applesauce is too easy to make and tastes much better than the one from the store. Gather up your apples, couple sticks of cinnamon, some salt, lemon juice and you are on your way.
Making it a slow cooker is wonderful and simple and you can make many batches to freeze and can enjoy it throughout the year.
Slow Cooker Applesauce
Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Total Time: 2-½ Hours
- 8 large apples – choose a variety of types (Gala, Jona Gold, Granny Smith)
- ½ Cup water
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- ¼ tsp salt
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- Peel and core apples. Cut apples into 1” – 2” chunks and place in the liner of a slow cooker. Add water, lemon juice, salt, and cinnamon sticks. Stir to mix, cover and cook on high for about 2 hours or until the apples are softened falling apart. Stir, occasionally during cooking.
- Once apples are done cooking, remove cinnamon sticks and mash with a potato masher until desired consistency is reached. This will result in chunky applesauce. Best served warm. Cool completely before storing in the refrigerator.
